When to Strike a Meridian. What you need to Know

* When to Strike a Meridian

When to Strike a Meridian. People in a martial art Dojo are always taught what to do. They can strike, they can block, they can kick and so some excellent throws.

But "when" to Strike a Meridian is rarely if ever taught. And when it comes to pressure points vulnerability "when" is extremely important.

Therefore perhaps it time to discuss the Yin/Yang of all this. The "when" of Kyusho Jitsu.  When one part of the body is strong then another part is weak.

This is the pure Yin/Yang of experience. And when the body is weak is when to strike a Meridian.  Not when the body is strong which is when most martial arts will attempt to do the strike.

When to Strike a Meridian

This is about learning to open the opponents body up during movement, and then taking advantage. Usually this is done when the body is closed by most. And when it is done this way a lot of power is needed to get the result.

But what happens when you are forced to use power? The body becomes slower and your timing is gone. You are also open to counter attack. In truth you invite the counter, enable it.

You need to learn to move, and create an open state in which the opponents body becomes vulnerable to an attack. This is true if you are attacking muscles, skeletal structures or pressure points and meridians.

* When to Strike a Meridian

In the image to the left you see me striking my son Scott at LI-10, or close to it.

This is a typical WAZA practiced in a Dojo. I teach it. But you also the see the reality of what is happening.

When to Strike a Meridian, this is the wrong time! I am striking a CLOSE meridian, and Scott's counter is hitting SP-21 which is OPEN. Therefore I am going DOWN and going down HARD!

Even if I am FAST enough to hit him first, and I would not be, I will not get the result I seek. Why? Because the meridian is closed and tight. I would need a lot of power to get an effect. And I would not be able to do it fast enough. You must know when to Strike a Meridian.

When to Strike a Meridian - Beginners Waza

And teaching this is OK for beginners, but it must be evolved. I see Black Belts doing this for demonstrations. From here as the Uke stands still they do a few more strikes and get a knockout.

Now I know what someone is going to say. I have had a result doing this in training. So have i! But in training the Uke's state is not violent, the body is relaxed even if they tense up. The street, which is the goal, is not this way.

If you are only looking for demonstration you can keep doing this. However if real life is your concern, and you wish to do pressure point / meridian striking you have to evolve your training. There is not other way.

In Conclusion - Strike a Meridian

When to Strike a Meridian CONCLUSION

So why am I saying this now after so many years? Because I though everyone knew this from their root art.

I taught all this in my Dojo, correct movement, alignments, body mechanics, long before they learned pressure points.

So yeah, I screwed up, now I need to correct this. And I have been dedicated for the last few years to doing this. This is about creating an open state in the attacker so you can then effectively strike at pressure points, or skeletal and muscular structures.

Then you will get the results you need.  I have a new course coming called Kosho Concepts: Creating Gaps and Voids. Have a read about the content if you have a few moments.

Thank you for reading when to Strike a Meridian. I hope you enjoyed the article.

Pressure Points and Throws. What is the Secret to Throws?

* Pressure Points and Throws

Pressure Points and Throws. Kyusho and the Nage. How do you use pressure points to get a throw? Let's get into this now.

When people think of pressure points they usually think of knockouts. And that is cool, nothing wrong with that idea.

However there is much more. There is almost no limit to the different effect that can happen to the body with pressure point manipulation or strikes.

Pressure Point strikes and manipulations can cause predictable effects. This is very important also! And one of these is as example a strike to LI-10. When you strike LI-10 the front knee bends, and the head comes forward. What does this offer you?

Pressure Points and Throws

Below is an older video that show LI-10 and its functions. Have a watch

Now in the video you can see my son's head move to the side. What does this mean? Once the head is no longer over the feet, balance is broken and a throw then becomes possible. All you need to do is continue the motion that has already begun.

And unlike many different types of throws this is not leverage based. This is motion based. And why would you not know this was going to happen and therefore follow through?

There is also the option of striking as well. But there are times when a throw is far more advantages. Doing a throw also allows for escape.  Being a Hapkido stylist as my first root art I am very into the idea of throwing. However when you add natural laws of motion, together with pressure points you get an amazing result.

In Conclusion - Pressure Points and Throws

Pressure Points and Throws CONCLUSION

Throws should be a natural part of any martial art. They should never need to be forced.

And understanding how different pressure point act when stimulated is important.

Another example like the on above is LU-05. This pressure point behaves in a similar manner.  I have an eBook called Kyusho Pressure Point Anatomy that breaks down the functions of each pressure point on the body. This is a great study resource.

This blog is an incredible resource for all things Kyusho Jitsu. It has an excellent search function too. I hope you use this FREE resource for your study. There is nothing else like it on the internet.

Thank you for reading about Pressure Points and Throws. I hope you enjoyed the article!

Kyusho Jitsu Energy Trapping. How to Lock Energy Inside.

* Kyusho Jitsu Energy Trapping

Kyusho Jitsu Energy Trapping. How to Lock Energy Inside the body to get the very best possible result from a pressure point strike.

Have you ever laid down on your arm and woke up with it "asleep?" You cannot move it? Or even feel it? The arm just kinda hangs there like it is dead? And the as it recovers you get that terrible "pins and needles" feeling. Sometimes that is even very painful!

But it is NOT what mom told you. You did not cut off the blood flow to the hand. You cannot do that.

The artery runs between the bones of the forearm. Therefore is not affected by this. So, what happened? You seal the energy flow in the arm. Cut it off at the elbow. You used Kyusho Jitsu Energy Trapping and did not even realize it!

Kyusho Jitsu Energy Trapping

The human body is a biological electromagnetic suit.  And it is subject to interference. Even sitting in one place too long can cause flow to increase in one area and decrease in another area of the body.  This even has overall health implications. While lying on your arm you simply "shorted out" the energy flow. There is a much more detailed explanation, but that one will due for now.

So what if you could cause this in a martial art / street scenario? With PROPER training, hard and dedicated training yes you can. But there is a specific method.

Striking pressure points can have a great effect on the function of the body. But if the conditions are wrong then you will not get the results. As an example a neurological knockout. What causes these to fail? First, and the linked article goes into much more details, is bad body mechanics

Also if the opponent sees the strike. This allows the body to compensate, to protect and defend itself. This is why understand cloaking of techniques is so essential. Even during a demonstration.  But if you seal the energy you are actually correcting the other problems.

In Conclusion - Kyusho Jitsu Energy Trapping

Kyusho Jitsu Energy Trapping CONCLUSION

Kyusho Jitsu Energy Trapping. It works, and yields devastating results. But you have to do the study.

And it is a serious study. This is one reason I am creating a video course on this subject. You can learn more about the course below.

Principle of Correct Body Alignments, What makes this so important?

* Principle of Correct Body Alignments

Principle of Correct Body Alignments. The way I teach Kyusho Jitsu there are 15 Principles. And I give a good foundation for people to develop skills in these principles.

I have done many different articles and videos on each of these principles also. One great example is my 15 Principles of Kyusho Jitsu Video Course set.

From this most students figure things out and get pretty good. But there is one principle that seems to be the stumbling block for many. That is the principle of Body Mechanics.

Recently I was wrapping up the taping of a video course called Kosho Octagon Concepts: Beyond 12-6-3 when I made a statement to a long time student and friend Master Philip Welch. I said "it is funny how the 4th principle of Kyusho is the most ignore and is actually a complete art unto itself."

Principle of Correct Body Alignments

And I realized at this point the great shortfall of so many Kyusho students. And that is the 4th Principle Body Mechanics. Myself I have been focusing on Body Mechanics for decades. But that was the direction my study was taking.

Why is this so important? The Principle of Correct Body Alignments?

Because without correct body alignments you must rely on blunt trauma to get the job done. This means BIG movements. And these movements can be seen and countered easy. Blunt trauma also commits you to the movement, if you miss you are vulnerable. When you understand body mechanics you use small motions, that yields much more power naturally. And the bonus, the opponent does not have time to react and counter.

Principle of Correct Body Alignments - How to Correct this?

Kyusho Jitsu Stances Work

The way to correct bad body mechanics is to first start to analyse motion. Check stances for triangulation. And you also need to determine if the movement into the stance support the action of the upper base.

As an example a "Horse Stance" while exciting a middle punch is BAD body mechanics.

The energy expelled will push the body off balance. So why then it it taught? Why is it in a Kata? Because that is a teaching base on concepts. And 99% of martial artist do not explore their Kata. They only perform them. Thus they cannot see what is really happening.

Also Kata tend to only be practiced in a robotic blockie manner.  When this is the only method of training nothing will be seen. I have a course discussing this called Pressure point Fighting: from Kata to Street. This course cover this entire idea of training Kata correctly in many different ways.

Martial Arts training is about personal growth. If you are not constantly working to progress then you are regressing.

In Conclusion - Principle of Correct Body Alignments

Principle of Correct Body Alignments CONCLUSION

In a demonstration this means that because everything aligns you get the result without power.

On the street it means you get a devastating result, without looking like you were trying to take the guy head off!

And because appearance, optics matter, if this ends up in a courtroom your self defense plea will not be thrown out. So now I will focus on a new book on teaching body mechanics in depth to Kyusho students.

Thank you for reading Principle of Correct Body Alignments. I hope it was helpful for you!

Finding Pressure Points in Kata. What is the best practice?

* Finding Pressure Points in Kata

Finding Pressure Points in Kata. What is the best practice? There are many different views on this subject. So let's explore this topic today! Personally I love Kata, all Kata. But many people only look at these forms from a very superficial way.

They memorize the movement and then go on to the next Kata. It is treated today like a gymnastic floor routine. And that is too bad.

Kata has so much to offer. If you understand how to look.

People have been "interpreting" Kata for a long time. The issue is that once they see something in it, then that is the end of the search. However the number of interpretations could be almost endless.

Finding Pressure Points in Kata

Pressure Point strikes and manipulations can be found in any Kata. One I was watching today is part of "form 6" of American Kenpo. Grand Master Tatum was explaining that in one part the "radial nerve" is being pressed to release the wrist and hand, thus stripping a weapon. He is of course referring to LI-10. And this is 100 percent correct.

Now this was, as he stated how Mr Parker had designed the form. But could more be seen? Most certainly! But you have to learn "how to see" and what to look for. Martial Artists who do interpret are often focused only on what they are doing, and not paying attention to what the opponent is doing. When finding pressure points in Kata both have to be analyzed.

And you must also expand the way in which you are preforming the Kata. Perhaps doing to slow so you can feel all the motion that is within. Today there is an illusion in the arts because of incomplete training of standing and fighting. Also that the attacker punches once and stops suspended in motion. That is OK for white and yellow belts. But this must be evolved to a much higher level. And no free sparring is not the answer like many believe.

Finding Pressure Points in Kata

Nothing about Kata training should be rushed. And it is an error to think you have all the answers. I am still learning things from BASIC Kata in my own system. There should never a one size fits all. Nor should there be ONE answer.

That is an absolute! And there are NO absolutes, except the Vodka!

The other day I was asked for some information in a Zoom call and was quickly and very rudely told I was DEAD wrong. "This will never happen" was her closed minded comment. In October of 1989 if I said the Berlin Wall would fall people would balk at me. Then on November 9th 1989 the unbelievably happened. The Berlin Wall fell. So did the USSR and communism in my home of Romania.

In Conclusion - Finding Pressure Points in Kata

Finding Pressure Points in Kata CONCLUSION

If your mind is closed as a martial artist to anything you will stop progressing. Karateka, martial artist should be the most open minded people in the world.

And if you begin to truly explore your Kata, finding pressure points in Kata you will discover more than I can tell you.

I have a course below where I can help you. But that is up to you. Just train hard and continue to learn from someone.

Kosho is an Awakening. What is the path of the mind?

Kosho is an Awakening

Kosho is an Awakening.  My biggest strong suite is I have a deep thirst to learn. And over the years in the arts I have come realization that when someone tells me they "have it" or "understand it" this means they DO NOT. That is a pure function of ego talking.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is "I am the wisest man in the world because I know I know nothing" from Socrates. And in today's culture of 'experts' you see this truth. I have never met an expert in my life.

Many who "claim" to be, but are only egotists.

When I learn I share. But in this world it cannot be done totally FREE. And honestly 99 percent of the people who take me up on the free products do nothing with the information. Which is fine, I get to weed out "students" from "experts" this way. I continue my martial arts education every day. But not via the "free" route. Free is a test drive. To see if the information FITS the result you seek. No "skin in the game" no results will be found.

Kosho is an Awakening

I watch, observe the martial arts world around me, especially the Kyusho Jitsu world and see some interesting things. Many BIG egos here. And some really BAD technique. Many "experts" have abandoned the core teachings of Kyusho because they think they have found another way, a better way. And while they are talented, a lot of their students are very substandard in comparison. And that is not good.

People, martial arts people, praise the masters of old, yet believe they have a better path. I find that funny. I love the old ways, and this is how I teach everything! And why? Because it works. I am not interested in attention to me. But I am that those who wish to learn, truly learn too. Not talk about it.

A great example is the use of Kyusho Jitsu. pressure points on the street. And maybe about a year ago Hanshi Juchnik enlightened me on the subject. Kyusho Jitsu is a study, and a wonderful study. But the application offered by most does not work. PERIOD. Why? Because you are doing things to the attacker that will then make it easier for them to do serious damage to you! You are taking on MASS. Martial Artists believe that their speed and power can overcome this. But that is FOOLISH. It is NOT ABOUT YOU but rather about what the attacker is going to do. Thus Kosho is an Awakening!

Kosho is an Awakening

The way things are taught today is like in the Matrix with Neo bending to dodge bullets. ONLY in the Matrix movie will that work. Not in real life. When you learn the proper concepts for pressure point use on the streets, train and apply this knowledge then you WILL be successful. And you will keep getting better as you get older. But the clock is ticking for us all. Training is calling. Kosho is an Awakening to the truth of training and learning.

Also when I create a course I often update them. If I learn something new, and I do everyday, if it is pertinent I add it to the course FREE. Not like software when you pay for an update. My course Advanced Kosho Concepts: Pressure Points of Kosho is the course that teaches for the STREET. And this summer I have add to it twice.

In Conclusion - Kosho is an Awakening

Kosho is an Awakening CONCLUSION

Kosho is an Awakening. This Kosho enlightenment came directly from Hanshi Juchnik. And I am deeply grateful for this.

The world is in turmoil like never before in history. And I believe martial arts, especially the art of Escape, the art of Peace, Kosho Ryu is the way forward. Kosho Concepts: Pressure Points of Kosho Ryu is part of the Advanced Kosho Core Concepts Series.

Natural Kyusho Jitsu Progression of Learning. What is the path?

* Natural Kyusho Jitsu Progression of Learning

Natural Kyusho Jitsu Progression: I had a email the other day from a long time student. He told me how much he loved the new Kosho courses, and loved how I was taking everyone in a new and exciting direction.

And without abandoning all my Kyusho Jitsu teachings.

So why a new direction? Because it is the natural thing to do, the natural progression. And it is full circle too. Let me explain. What is Dim Mak / Kyusho Jitsu?

Dim Mak / Kyusho Jitsu is the study of the anatomy of the human body based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. It is the study of the meridian systems, and the vascular systems of the body. To find a weakness that can be exploited. It then looks at the tools to strike to get the desired result.

Natural Kyusho Jitsu Progression

Why does Kyusho Jitsu exist today? Because almost all martial arts taught today are incomplete.

What is Kosho Ryu? it is the study of the natural laws that dictate and control HOW the body MUST move. And all mammals move in the same fashions. Yes, even the 4 legged ones, if you pay attention. So is this not a natural progression of learning? To go from anatomy of the body to movement?

What else? Well all martial arts teach what to do. But they do not teach WHEN to it! And once again this is a natural progression of learning. Martial Arts idea of "when" is after the punch has been launch. Sorry that is not correct! That is too late. This is why they are called "reactionary" systems.

Natural Kyusho Jitsu Progression - Kosho

Does Kosho include pressure points? Yes, because it is a complete study. It is not a martial art. That term has in of itself a limitation. Kosho is a study of martial arts concepts and theories. A study of the natural laws that govern the world. Not just "fighting" which is a huge limitation. But also healing, and escaping. It incorporates strikes, throws, locks, Kata, Waza, Bunkai and connects the body-mind and spirit because it is a study. When you truly study, investigate you open the mind, and increase your imagination due to the need to connect dots and explore ideas.

When you learn a Kata how much time is spent on it? How many different ways do you perform the Kata? Today Kata is learned to get a promotion. It should be learned to totally understand a concept of motion.

Martial Arts are limited

Why are martial arts limited? Because the majority of "masters" I know believe they have all the answers. And they do not. In modern society, which I do not participate in, "master" has come to mean "stagnation." I am almost 4 decades now and I cannot believe how much I am learning daily.

But people do not wish in these times to put their egos aside and learn, progress. As Socrates said "I am the wisest man in the world because I know I know nothing."

Pressure Points

How does Kosho work with Pressure Points? With great ease. Kyusho principles like the Cycle of Destruction happen naturally due to movement of attack. No targeting necessary.

The question is, do you want to join me on this journey. Do you want to learn? The real starting point beyond the free 5 Lesson Kosho Ryu Mini Course is my Introduction to Kosho Ryu Course. From there if you want to jump into Kyusho with Kosho the there is Pressure Points of Kosho Ryu if you like. I just added another video to that course too. When someone has purchased a course from me any updates are always FREE.

In Conclusion - Natural Kyusho Jitsu Progression of Learning

Natural Kyusho Jitsu Progression of Learning CONCLUSION

And I have 3 NEW series of Kosho Courses. And everything is broken down my topic. This allows you to taking your time and learn. More will be added over time also. These series are:

  1. Kosho Core Concepts
  2. Advanced Kosho Core Concepts
  3. Kosho Weapons Series

All courses are divided into many shorter videos for easy learning and reference too. If you are not interested that is fine. I am here if you change your mind! But I hope you will join me! Please understand that this is the Natural Kyusho Jitsu Progression of learning.

Complete Kyusho Education. What is the Best Method?

* Complete Kyusho Education

Complete Kyusho Education. The very best way to learn Kyusho Jitsu is like I did, with a live teacher in a classroom.

However there are not many opportunities I am aware of. I am not even sure if my teacher Grand Master Steve Stewart is still holding these classes.

And I have no plans to return to teaching this way myself. I am also no longer interest in teaching seminars except for my own RMATC. However there are no sceduled events coming.

Complete Kyusho Education. So if physical learning is not possible for most that leave us online. And online can be a challenge too. Not everyone is good at learning via video. I have over the years offered many different video course options. The most popular is the Kyusho Home Study Course. It first come out in 2009 and went from DVD format to online download. And the course is massive. However I am considering retiring this course in the New Year. I think it has run its course, no pun intended.

Complete Kyusho Education

That leaves the written word. And that can also be problematic. I recently released a book called the Complete Kyusho Jitsu Learning Guide from A to Z.  And I actually do cover everything Kyusho Jitsu in this book.  Alone it is an outstanding learning tool. You can with training do very very well with just this book. And it has been mildly popular. Far from my best selling book Kyusho Pressure Point Anatomy however.

Personally I think perhaps a combination of the 2? But I am really not sure. Statistically if 100 people show interest in Kyusho Jitsu only about 5 act on the interest. And of those 5 only 1 really does anything about it. So, how do you motivate people to train?

Complete Kyusho Education

I tried another method also. Also, I created full Kyusho Instructor Training Courses, which offered my full support and help to get people trained, and certified to teach Kyusho in the Dojo. And while sales were OK with this idea. The only places I am aware are offering classes is Spain and Malaysia.  And the most important was that I was not looking for a share of teaching revenue either. Take the courses, do the study, teach people and succeed in spreading the word! But I get all the usual excuses. "That won't work where I live." Which is why they work for someone else.

Complete Kyusho Education. What is the Best Method? What do you think? Am I missing something? Logically might think it was economic, however price point seems to not matter. Lower prices have often hurt sales in fact. And FREE does not work either. That success rate is well below 1%.

Complete Kyusho Education - In Conclusion

Complete Kyusho Education CONCLUSION

Complete Kyusho Education? I am thinking maybe considering the times my book called Complete Kyusho Jitsu Learning Guide from A to Z is what I will focus on.  It is available right now in English and Spanish. Perhaps more languages is the best root?

Or are traditional martial arts dying in lue of the sport craze? Many things to ponder over the coming months.

While Kyusho Jitsu is an intellectual pursuit you still must do the training. Without the training there will be no result. And it must be the correct training for the streets also. Sport and street are 2 different worlds, not matter how much people wish otherwise.

Thank youf or taking time to read Complete Kyusho Education!

Are Pressure Points Street Worthy? What makes this possible?

* Are Pressure Points Street Worthy?

Are Pressure Points Street Worthy? What makes this possible?

There is an old saying "everybody want to go to heaven but no wants to be dead." This paraphrased quote is from the movie Marked for Death, and was said by villain Screwface. But it is very true. Everyone wants the instant result, but no one wants to do the work.

And to answer the question quickly is both yes and no. it depends on the training. Let's take a deeper look.

The martial arts studied today are very different that 100 years ago. And as dangerous as these time are in the western cultures, the cultures of Japan, China and Korea to name a few were far different,  The west is interested in big shinny object, like winning in sporting events. A hundred years ago this was not an option. It was about survival.  And the masters of old lived lives of conflict. Today things are not the same.

Are Pressure Points Street Worthy?

Also what the master of old knew, and what they taught changed.  They stopped teaching the concepts and philosophies of their arts and focused on techniques. That was what people wanted. Plus as the arts became mainstream and children began to be taught arts were watered down for safety.

Are Pressure Points Street Worthy? That depends on the practitioner and what they are training in. Pretty much all martial arts teach a reactionary system. This will make pressure point striking difficult.  Why? Because the attacker is leading the dance.

So why I am saying this now after 2 decades of Kyusho Jitsu? Because I did not realize the so many were practicing a reactionary system.  I have been training in a "preparatory" martial art system since 2001. Before I began my study of Kyusho Jitsu.

In a reactionary martial art you are taught "what to do." And that is very important. But you are not taught when to do it! And that is far more important! When you move "on time" you take the lead in the attack. Then because you understand "natural laws" you see patterns in movement, and this opens up the body for meridian strikes.

Are Pressure Points Street Worthy? - It is about learning

Martial arts is not a destination.  It is about continued learning.  Most martial art systems today have curriculum for about 5 years tops. After this there is nothing to teach. So why do I have people still training in my system 20 years later? Because it is based on the preparatory martial art, Kosho Ryu it is a study.

A study of natural laws and motion. It is not about techniques or Kata. However they are also taught. But not for the purpose of making Gods out of them. But rather for learning and study.

When you move on time [timing], and understand distance pressure points present themselves.  You learn to project the Octagon on the body and see the "zig zag" pattern of body motion. Then you see openings. Plus the study of the 2 types of vision. This helps the student understand and overcome "tunnel" vision which comes from the adrenaline rush of attack.

Are Pressure Points Street Worthy? - In Conclusion

Are Pressure Points Street Worthy? CONCLUSION

Now many will resist the idea their arts does not contain everything. If you look at Aikido as an example, which is a great art, what O'Sensei taught early in his life to students is different from what he taught later in his life.

Rather than choosing a certain period which he taught would it not be better to study it all?

What James Mitose taught in Hawaii in 1936 and beyond to men like William Chow and Thomas SH Young was not the same as he taught to Bruce Juchnik.

It is foolish to think that any martial artist knows all. But the study, the learning is what matters. Are Pressure Points Street Worthy? Well if you add some of the natural laws of Kosho Ryu to your training they certainly can be! Below I will give you a chance to get a free 5 Lesson Kosho Mini Course!

Pressure Point Self Defense. How to save your life through escaping.

* Pressure Point Self Defense

Pressure Point Self Defense. Save your life through escaping a bad situation quickly. This article is a little different than any I have written previously on self defense.

And this is because the times are very different. I hope you will continue to read to the end. I am sure you have noticed that the world has changed dramatically in the last decade.

And most of this change has not been for the better.

Our freedoms have been attacked and free speech has almost vanished in many places. But thankfully over the last few months many people have woken finally to see what is going on. But this is not about that, or what I call the death of the western culture.

And to my mind that is a good thing. However I am also sure you have noticed the increase in street violence. And just how many "crazies" there are walking around today who explode into violence just by seeing an American Flag T-shirt,  SO today I am going to discuss the learning of a skill for the streets, Pressure Point Self Defense, and how to save your life through escaping. So let's get into this.

Pressure Point Self Defense

Kyusho Jitsu or pressure point fighting is a great study. But it is an intellectual study that assumes a strong martial art background. And over the years more and more people have developed an interest. The problem is today most martial arts systems are sport based and do not properly address self defense needs. This is not true for all martial arts, however the methods of training are often very limited.

And the fact is today many martial arts are technique based. They train with techniques on a stationary opponent and believe this can be used on the streets based on their free sparring or Kumite. But kumite is SPORT. And only a fraction of the entire picture of what martial art, karate or any other systems should be about.  Waza or techniques, Kumite, Kata are all VERY IMPORTANT training aspects of the martial arts. But much is missing still.

Pressure Point Self Defense that works needs more.

Pressure Point Self Defense - other considerations

There are other things to consider today on the streets.  Your right to self defense is in great jeopardy. The fact that there are cameras everywhere tells you that you better be 100 percent right when defend yourself! This has been seen with charges against police officers who were defending themselves, but video is altered to make special interest groups happy.  In the USA you have a "legal system" not a "justice system" which means that some people are above the law.

In Mexico any street fight that brings the police means both parties go to jail.  Plus, and most important is the guy who is attacking you likely has friends waiting to step in and kick the hell out of you if you want a solid blow of any kind.

What is the solution? Learn the art of escape to enhance your pressure point study.

Art of Escape - Pressure Point Self Defense

Secrets of the Octagon

Most martial arts teach what to do in the event of an attack. Pressure point or Kyusho study teaches where to strike. What is missing is the "when." This is where Kosho Ryu, the art of escape comes in.

Martial Art today which are pretty much all technique based teach to react when you see an punch coming. Kosho teachings to respond as soon as you see movement.

And then to move based on the angles of the Octagon

The basic teaching here are to escape the situation with any contact happening. However you could depending on the circumstances make an easy pressure point strike to say ST-05 or LI-18 and cause a pressure point knockout.  Beginners Kosho Ryu study gives you these kinds of options. And this is all part of Pressure Point Self Defense.

Pressure Point Self Defense CONCLUSION

The study of Kosho Ryu helps to make pressure points work effectively on the streets. Kosho is a complete martial art study and there is enough teaching to last a lifetime. It is a preparatory first art, reactionary second.

The majority of martial arts are only reactionary. Plus it is concepts based, not technique or Kata based. However it includes everything.

I am going to give you some options below that you can learn more about Kosho. This will include a free video to get you started.
